Abstract
Objective: To describe the epidemiological profile of snakebite accidents in riverside populations of the municipality of Coari, Amazonas, Brazil. Methods: This is a descriptive case series study with a quantitative approach, based on secondary data from the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN), covering the period from 2016 to 2020. Sociodemographic, clinical, and epidemiological variables were analyzed using descriptive statistics, with data organized in Microsoft Excel®. Results: A total of 210 cases were recorded, with predominance of males (79.0%) and individuals aged 15 to 45 years (57.4%). Bothropic accidents were the most frequent (78.6%), mainly affecting lower limbs, especially feet (49.0%). Most cases were classified as moderate (51.0%), with frequent local manifestations such as pain and edema. Care was mostly provided between 2 and 6 hours after the bite, with high antivenom administration (95.2%) and a high cure rate (97.6%). Conclusion: Snakebite accidents are strongly associated with occupational and environmental factors, affecting vulnerable populations; preventive actions and timely access to treatment should be strengthened, despite limitations related to secondary data use.
