Abstract
This article sought of analyzing the scientific production on gastric cancer patients undergoing gastrectomy with lymphadenectomy D2, looking for the relationship of this technique with the reduction of morbidity and mortality and improvement of the prognosis. D2 lymphadenectomy is more positive than D1. The survival of patients undergoing more extensive lymphadenectomy was greater than that of those undergoing D1. In addition, more frequent complications of pancreatic fistulas were observed in the postoperative period, compared to D1. D2 lymphadenectomy, in line with the preservation of the pancreas and spleen during surgery, proved to be more effective, providing longer survival time for patients who have resectable gastric tumors. However, variables such as the surgeon's experience should be investigated in order to improve the prognosis and reduce the morbidity and mortality of these patients after surgical approaches.
