Abstract
Objective: To verify the existence of educational institutional policies for elderly in Federal Public Universities in the Midwest Region, with UnB as a case point, specifically the University of Aging Program (UniSER) – Arte de Viver, in the course of 2015 to 2020. Methods: The research, with a qualitative approach and exploratory and descriptive objectives, had, as data collection procedure, bibliographical survey, documental analysis and questionnaire sent to the studied universities. Results: Data revealed that, due to accelerated Brazilian population aging, there are no exclusive educational public policies for elderly in any of institutional development plans analyzed, just specific actions related to health and education courses. Conclusion: It is concluded that there are many challenges to institutionalize an educational space for this age group, which must be constituted through the formulation and implementation of a specific policy for this group in federal public universities. There are several possibilities in order to guarantee that these spaces constitute a profitable niche of historical protagonism in eldery’s reality transformation. University needs to promote its social function, aiming to contemplate the society it serves, with regard to the process of human aging.
