Abstract

This article aims to identify the expectations of academics in the nursing course, given the first contact with the supervised curricular internship in the trauma and emergency sector and the influences it exerts on the future of professional graduates. The study is a qualitative assessment of exploratory and descriptive character, whose audience was academics regularly enrolled in the 4th or 8th phase of the nursing course. The Supervised Curricular Internship is an environment conducive to learning the profession and developing skills, however there is a need for a greater understanding of what this moment represents in the training os the future professional nurse. However, there is still a deficit in the learning context in the students’ view, in order to meet the needs of comprehensive care in the trauma and emergency sector, in addition to the identification of a dissociation between the fields of theory, practice and internship, that contributes to the emergence of gaps in training. The student must seek more knowledge and dedicate himself completely to the internship as a time to complement learning and form his critical and professional sense.
