Abstract
Objective: To describe the evaluative instruments of safety culture and climate that are used in research in health institutions. Bibliographic Review: Internationally and in the Brazilian context, instruments of safety measures have been developed and are being increasingly used to understand health organizations in order to ensure better quality in patient care. These instruments allow the assessment of the patient's culture and safety climate in the hospital context, in Primary Health Care and in the specialized service, leaving the researcher to select the best tool for his/her study. Final Considerations: The application of instruments to assess patient safety culture and climate can contribute to patient safety within health institutions. For this, it is necessary to stimulate discussion about the strengths and weaknesses, revealing any differences in the perception between the groups of health professionals, helping to understand how the safety culture influences health work and can facilitate the proposal of strategic interventions to the improvement of care.
