Abstract
Objective: To analyze the importance of the nurse's role in the prevention of infection in the sterilization material center (CME). Bibliographic review: It was observed that the functions performed by nurses in the material center are of paramount importance in the functioning of health processes, since the CME is responsible for the preparation, sterilization and distribution of material for care and procedures. Along with this, it is responsible for monitoring the effectiveness of the services performed, as well as supervising the materials already processed to ensure the integrity and validity of the procedures that will be performed using the sterilized and stored resources. Attributing a great responsibility and the need for training and preparation of professionals who work in this sector. Final considerations: In this way, it was considered that qualified professionals are needed for the assumed area and that a competent nurse at the center performs an important role in the health service, and that their actions reflect on the result of the procedures performed with the materials and on the evolution of the patient's framework.
