Abstract
Objective: To analyze whether the experience of death situations in the hospital environment can influence the mental health of professionals who work in nursing, as well as to present the difficulties encountered and propose the elaboration of strategies for coping with grief. Methods: this is an integrative review with a qualitative approach. The search took place in the second quarter of 2022 with studies published in the last ten years, this time frame is justified by the search for current studies on the subject, in the LILACS, BDENF and PubMed/MEDLINE databases. The following descriptors were used: "Mourning", Thanatology", "Attitude towards death" and "Nursing Care". Results: The feelings experienced by the team to align humanized care to the patients' death process were identified. The most cited emotions were suffering, pain, fear, impotence and frustration. This situation can cause mental vulnerability in professionals and cause implications in the assistance offered. Spirituality and self-knowledge can be important allies when dealing with these manifestations. Final considerations: The need to work with continuing education on the theme “death”, and its inclusion in the training process of professionals, aiming at better preparation for this care.
