Abstract

Objective: To identify the working conditions of nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic, in a hospital in Macapá/AP. Methods: Descriptive study, with a retrospective and quantitative approach, carried out in a reference hospital in patient care during the confrontation with COVID-19. 42 nurses of both sexes participated. A questionnaire was used, addressing sociodemographic aspects, issues of contagion and access to personal protective equipment, as well as health conditions. The study was submitted and approved by the Research Ethics Committee. Results: There was a predominance of female professionals (71.4%), with a positive diagnosis for COVID-19 (81%), with PCR being the main test performed (45.2%). It is also noted the dissatisfaction of professionals about the amount of personal protective equipment provided (85.7%), the lack of training to meet work needs (81%), the inappropriate availability of water for hand hygiene (73. 8%) and lack of physical and mental health care (85.7%). Final considerations: The COVID-19 pandemic strengthens the need for policies to protect and preserve the physical and, mainly, mental health of Nursing professionals. And, it reignites discussions about the working conditions that, consequently, impairs the quality of the service and the exercise of the profession.
