Abstract

Objective: To verify the relationship between the position adopted during vaginal birth and the occurrence of spontaneous lacerations in parturient women assisted by obstetric nurses at a Normal Birth Center (CPN) in Recife. Methods: Cross-sectional, descriptive-exploratory study with a quantitative approach. Held at the Recife Women's Hospital. The sample consisted of 100 parturients assisted by obstetric nursing. The collection procedure was carried out with the support of the sector's database. This research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Faculdade Pernambucana de Saúde, under CAAE number 68683623.1.0000.5569. Results: Women between 19 and 24 years old (43.43%) and mixed race (67.50%) were the most predominant profiles. The population was mostly primiparous patients with 44%. The use of non-invasive technologies in labor contributed to promoting relaxation and comfort. During vaginal birth, the semi-sitting position was the most adopted. It was observed that 73.0% had perineal laceration, 68.44% with first-degree lacerations and 22.22% with second-degree lacerations. Conclusion: This study made it possible to verify the relationship between the position adopted by the parturient during labor and the occurrence of perineal lacerations.
