Abstract

ABSTRACT

Objective: To describe the importance of the nurse in the care of newborns with complications in the Intensive Care Unit. Literature review: The neonatal period is marked by a high mortality rate due to the vulnerability of newborns, requiring specialized care in this critical phase. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a hospital unit intended for premature newborns with low birth weight, affected by various pathologies that may put the newborn's life at risk and who require medical care, a nursing team, and who are prepared for possible complications. Therefore, neonatal nursing care consists of implementing nursing care, intervening and interacting with other health professionals. This relationship should be focused on improving or maintaining the newborn's health and welcoming the family. Final considerations: In view of this, it was possible to identify the main complications in the newborn and the nurse's performance focused on these patients within the NICU. It is intended that through this study, the Nurse is prepared to work in the NICU and intervene in the face of the main complications with newborns.
