Abstract
Objective: To investigate the role of nursing in prenatal care, focusing on the management of iron deficiency anemia in pregnant women. Methods: This study was conducted through a integrative review, used articles from the following databases: Virtual Health Library (BVS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS) and Google Scholar, selecting publications from 2014 to 2024 that addressed nursing care for pregnant women with iron deficiency anemia. Results: The research highlighted that the proactive involvement of nurses, through the Systematization of Nursing Care and the International Classification for Nursing Practice, is essential for effective care. Challenges such as treatment adherence and side effects of ferrous sulfate were identified as impactful on the quality of care. Health education emerged as crucial for preventing and treating iron deficiency anemia, promoting healthy food choices and the importance of iron supplementation. Final considerations: Strengthening health education and continuously training nursing professionals are essential to improve treatment adherence, although limitations such as a lack of resources and infrastructure compromise the implementation of appropriate care.
