Abstract

Objective: To analyze the scientific production on obstetric violence, identifying interventions and the role of nurses in preventing this type of violence. Methods: This is an integrative review, carried out in the VHL, in the databases LILACS and BDENF. The following terms were used to survey the studies, according to the Descriptors in Science and Health (DECS): “Obstetric violence” AND “nursing”. Articles from 2018 to 2023 were searched. Results: 11 articles that responded to the guiding question were used. The importance of training and preventive measures for nursing professionals was evidenced by the analysis of the articles. Final considerations: Obstetric violence is characterized by the process of dispossessing the female body and the woman's autonomy, exposing her to dehumanized treatment, unnecessary invasive procedures, excessive use of medication, pathologization of natural processes, and psychological abuse. Nurses play a key role in preventing obstetric violence. He must explain procedures, avoid invasive procedures, listen to the woman, promote the right to have a companion, guarantee access to the bed, guide the woman about her rights, and always keep up to date.
