Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the contribution of ergonomic practices to preventing and reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety in the workplace. Methods: This is an integrative review, with searches conducted in SciELO, BVS, PubMed, Google Scholar, and the CAPES Portal between 2014 and 2024. Eight studies linking ergonomic interventions and mental health in the workplace were selected. Results: The most effective interventions were participatory ergonomics, ergonomic furniture adjustments, scheduled breaks during work, acoustic and lighting improvements, and participatory ergonomic training. Participatory ergonomics stood out, with an average 42% reduction in depressive and anxiety symptoms, and was considered the most effective by the studies analyzed. Final considerations: Therefore, ergonomic practices can be considered to have a significant and effective impact not only on preventing work-related mental disorders but also on promoting occupational health more broadly. By fostering healthier, safer, and more productive work environments, these interventions contribute to reducing absences, improving workers' quality of life, and enhancing human capital within organizations.
