Abstract
Objective: To construct and validate a questionnaire to assess the knowledge of parents and caregivers of babies and children up to the age of five about emergency situations involving airway obstruction and cardiac massage, as well as their knowledge of the emergency number that should be called in such cases. Methods: This is a methodological study of construction and validation of content, developed during the months of April to August 2023 in the city of Bandeirantes, Paraná. It was composed of three stages, the first stage, identification of the domains; the second stage consisted of the elaboration of a questionnaire and forms for data collection and stage three, the validation process. Results: The initial questionnaire received several suggestions in the first round, which were incorporated into the reformulation of the instrument. After the second and third rounds of validation, 80% agreement was achieved on all established criteria. Conclusion: During the validation of the instrument, it was noted that the contributions and experiences of the judges, who came from the academic and urgent and emergency fields, considerably enriched the process, resulting in an instrument that can be used to assess the population's knowledge of first aid and show which subjects the population worked with had the most difficulty.
