Abstract

Objective: To analyze the influence of therapeutic groups as an alternative in the treatment of individuals with mental disorders. Methods: An integrative literature review was conducted through the PubMed database between 2021 and 2025, using the PICO strategy to formulate the research question. Descriptors were combined with Boolean operators (AND, OR, and NOT) to enhance sensitivity and refine results. Original articles and empirical studies on the use of therapeutic groups in mental health care were included, while systematic, integrative, narrative reviews and duplicate publications were excluded. Results: The review identified relevant benefits of group participation, such as increased self-esteem, strengthened perceived social support, and the development of interpersonal skills. Groups proved effective in promoting acceptance, active listening, and safe spaces for emotional expression. Their flexibility allows application in different contexts and populations, broadening access to care and fostering social inclusion and treatment continuity. The creation of support networks among participants strengthens resilience and helps in facing adverse situations. Final considerations: Therapeutic groups are an essential practice for achieving more humanized, comprehensive, and effective mental health care.
