Abstract
Objective: To understand the role of nursing and the main challenges faced in pediatric cardiology care after the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This study consists of an integrative literature review, selecting articles published in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Virtual Health Library (BVS), and PubMed, between 2021 and 2025, in any language, with full texts freely available. The guiding question was "What is the role and main challenges of the nursing team in the care of children with heart disease after the COVID-19 pandemic?". The Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS) were used in the searches: nursing team, nursing, pediatrics, child, heart disease, COVID-19. Results: The 12 selected articles revealed that the role of nursing is fundamental at all levels of healthcare, requiring theoretical knowledge, technical skills, and therapeutic communication with patients and their families. Teamwork, lack of adherence to treatment, and insufficient academic training can be challenges in providing care. Conclusion: The role of pediatric cardiology nursing is broad and dynamic, requiring continuous health education. Furthermore, more studies are needed to understand the long-term impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the care of children with heart disease.
