Abstract
This study is an integrative review with a descriptive approach that aims to present the quality of life and the challenges faced by young people and adults throughout their lives, after being submitted to an intestinal ostomy, since there is a series of adversities involved in the process of development and maturation of human beings. Especially when this process involves drastic changes, such as the construction of a stoma, these correlate with biological, psychological and social aspects, related to the consequences of anatomical changes, repercussions on self-image and self-esteem and in the social context, bringing difficulties of reintegration into the labor market. With regard to nursing, the team needs permanent education with regard to colostomy care and a humanized approach; allowing the patient to feel welcomed and encouraged to clarify his doubts and express his feelings, enabling greater willingness to face a new normal.
