Abstract
Objective: To verify the experience of postpartum women regarding breastfeeding in a maternity hospital in a city of Rondônia. Methods: This is a descriptive, exploratory study with a quali-quantitative approach, conducted with fifty postpartum women, aged 18 to 38 years, selected during hospitalization in the rooming-in unit in a Maternity Hospital in a city of Rondônia. A breastfeeding form was used as an instrument. Results: The results reveal that about 34% of the interviewees had not breastfed previously, 52% of the participants denied having received orientation on breastfeeding during pregnancy, 74% reported that the breastfeeding time between birth and the newborn's first feed was until the first hour of life, 24% reported having difficulty to breastfeeding, 60% received help at the Health Center when they had a problem. Conclusion: In this study it was possible to observe that most participants had prenatal care, but this did not ensure the receipt of information and guidance on breastfeeding, because most of the interviewees reported not having received it during the consultations.
