Abstract
Objective: To verify through scientific articles, the importance of nursing care for the prevention and control of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus in Primary Health Care. Methods: This is an integrative review of the literature with an exploratory scope of a qualitative approach, the scientific bases that were used are the Acervo+ Index Base and the Google Scholar search engine. Results: When analyzing the selected articles, it was found that the importance of nursing care for prevention and control in primary health care are numerous, emphasizing the nursing consultation in the usual risk prenatal care and its attributions aimed at for the educational practice based on self-care, in which the pregnant woman is advised about the risks of complications and aggravations associated with the disease. Final Considerations: So that nurses need to focus on the guidelines assigned to pregnant women through groups, assist in care throughout nursing consultations and prenatal care, so it is necessary to implement measures that cooperate for the protection, promotion, recovery and restoration of health, generating methods to mitigate complications and recommend ways to prevent this metabolic disorder and lead the pregnant woman to prenatal care at the appropriate level, according to her risk classification.
