Abstract

Objective: Analyze the importance of the nurse's role in promoting self-care and the adaptation of colostomized patients, highlighting their role in care, education, and emotional support. Methods: This is an integrative review with a five-year time frame, based on a systematic analysis of research conducted by experts. The PICO strategy was used to guide the selection of studies, considering inclusion and exclusion criteria to ensure methodological standardization of the data. Results: The analysis of the publications reveals a significant number of studies that highlight the importance of nursing care in encouraging self-care among colostomized patients. From this perspective, the nurse stands out as a key agent in health education, both for colostomized individuals and their families. It is noteworthy, however, that such care must be provided in an individualized manner, taking into account each patient’s specific needs. Final Considerations: The study demonstrated the essential role of nurses in the adaptation and rehabilitation of colostomized patients, emphasizing the importance of health education and humanized care. It is recommended to expand training and support groups to improve support and the quality of care.
