Abstract

Objective: To report the experience of developing an intervention proposal aimed at promoting knowledge and the implementation of non-pharmacological pain relief techniques during labor in a referral hospital for maternal and child care in Namibe, Angola. Experience report: The proposal was developed within the context of the Specialization in Obstetric Nursing, based on a situational diagnosis conducted through the analysis of aggregated administrative records and observation of the care routine. The use of the Problem Tree enabled the identification of gaps in pregnant women’s knowledge, low adherence to non-pharmacological methods, and weaknesses in professional training. Based on these findings, an action plan was structured focusing on team training, educational actions for pregnant women and their companions, reorganization of the environment, and the development of institutional protocols, although its implementation did not occur during the study period. Final considerations: The experience highlighted the need for organizational and educational changes to improve obstetric care and strengthen the humanization of childbirth. The proposal has the potential to enhance women’s empowerment, reduce unnecessary interventions, and improve the experience of women during labor.
