Abstract

Objective: To analyze the perceptions of obstetric nurses who provide care in planned home births regarding the reception offered by maternity services during transfer situations in Recife, Pernambuco. Methods: This descriptive, qualitative study was conducted in Recife (PE). The sample consisted of five obstetric nurses with experience in planned home birth. Data were collected between June and August 2025 through semi-structured interviews conducted via video call, which were subsequently recorded, transcribed, and analyzed using thematic analysis with the support of QCamap software. Results: Three thematic categories emerged: 1) Reception and attitude of the hospital team; 2) Challenges in the integration between home-based and hospital care; and 3) Scenario and perspectives for reception during transfers from planned home birth. Conclusion: The perceptions of obstetric nurses revealed weaknesses in the reception of planned home birth transfers in maternity services, reinforcing the need for greater integration between home-based and hospital services, collaborative care pathways, and continuing education, as well as further research to broaden this debate and support safer and more respectful evidence-based practices and policies.
