Abstract
Objective: To analyze the role of nursing in the care of an elderly person diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease (AD), as well as to identify forms of care that can be provided. Methods: This is an integrative literature review. The search was conducted in the electronic database Virtual Health Library (VHL) using the descriptors “Alzheimer’s Disease,” “Nursing Care,” “Health Care for the Elderly,” and “Aged,” aiming to identify specialized literature on the subject published between 2020 and 2025. Seven articles were included in the final sample. Results: After analysis, five categories emerged regarding forms of care for elderly patients with Alzheimer’s Disease. It was concluded that, in order to meet the needs of the patient–family dyad, nurses should provide care directed toward the family caregiver; encourage the sharing of knowledge among those involved in care; promote the well-being of the elderly patient; suggest adaptations in their daily routine to facilitate daily activities; and encourage the participation of the multidisciplinary team in the development of the care plan. Final considerations: Thus, following the conclusions found in this review, it is possible to provide holistic and humanized care.
