Abstract

Objective: To identify the main educational needs of pregnant and lactating women regarding breastfeeding. Methods: This is an integrative literature review, conducted using searches in the LILACS, SciELO, PubMed databases and institutional databases of the Ministry of Health. Articles available in full, published between 2020 and 2025, in Portuguese and English, addressing the proposed theme were included. The selection of studies followed the recommendations of the PRISMA Flow Diagram 2020, and data analysis was conducted using Content Analysis. Results: Twenty studies were included, predominantly national. The analysis of the articles allowed the identification of factors associated with non-initiation and early weaning of breastfeeding, gaps in knowledge and self-efficacy of pregnant and lactating women, as well as educational needs related to breastfeeding. Final considerations: The evidence indicates that knowledge deficits and the absence of continuous guidance contribute to difficulties in the practice of breastfeeding. The importance of educational strategies that assist pregnant and breastfeeding women in acquiring information, strengthening self-efficacy, and maintaining breastfeeding is highlighted.
