The influence of recreational activities with cancer patients: a narrative review
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To describe the positive influence of recreational activities in the treatment of cancer patients. Bibliographic review: Cancer treatment can be an unpleasant and painful experience for anyone, being a source of stress and anguish generated both by fears related to the disease itself and by living with eventual suffering. Most patients undergoing chemotherapy have a negative image of the hospital due to the use of drugs, invasive procedures, withdrawal from routine and discomfort generated by hospitalization. The presence of recreational activities in the cancer treatment process is of great importance. These activities enable a more humanized assistance, improving the quality of life of individuals with cancer, reducing the psychological effects of hospitalization. The humanization of the cancer treatment environment is a comprehensive care strategy for the human being, allowing health promotion with biopsychosocial and spiritual well-being, with the priority being the patient's benefit, considering the human person in the first place. Final considerations: In this way, recreational activities have positive effects, making the hospital environment more pleasant, through games that help people with cancer to deal with conflicts and reduce the anguish caused by the disease and the hospitalization period.
