Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura secondary to Covid-19 infection: an integrative review
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To analyze the scientific literature on the relationship between idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura and Covid-19 infection. Methods: An Integrative Review was carried out using the Pubmed database platform, with the aim of locating relevant sources for this. The search was carried out under using the descriptors “Covid”, “idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura”, “Immune thrombocytopenic purpura”, “thrombocytopenic”, in association with the Boolean operators “OR” and “AND”, to search for articles, resulting in 171 initial articles. Due to inclusion and exclusion criteria, only 16 became official sources. Results: Studies show that there is a close link between viral infection and, therefore, the production of autoantibodies and cytokines that converge in a mechanism of viral autoimmunity observed in cases of immune thrombocytopenic purpura. Final considerations: Covid-19 can be considered an infectious agent inducing Thrombocytopenic Purpura to Immune, which suggests the urgency of treating this association to alleviate its possible complications.
