Resumo

Objetivo: Analisar as características da Acromegalia. Revisão Bibliográfica: A acromegalia é uma doença endócrina rara associada a níveis elevados de hormônio do crescimento e fator semelhante à insulina I. A acromegalia é uma doença rara com incidência anual de quatro por milhão. A idade média ao diagnóstico varia de 40 a 50 anos e a doença é tipicamente diagnosticada com um atraso de 5 a 10 anos e, se não tratada, está associada a morbidade significativa e aumento da mortalidade. Considerações finais: A acromegalia é uma doença endócrina cujos principais sintomas são aumento das mãos e pés, alterações na aparência facial e dores de cabeça, além de ser acompanhada comorbidades como diabetes, doenças cardiovasculares, distúrbios respiratórios e incremento da incidência de neoplasias. Seu tratamento objetiva o controle dos marcadores bioquímicos da atividade da doença, GH e IGF-I, além da redução dos sintomas e das comorbidades e é feito principalmente através de cirurgia além da administração de ligantes dos receptores da somatostatina, agonistas da dopamina e antagonistas dos receptores de GH.
