Tracheostomy: indications, techniques, care, complications and decannulation
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To investigate in the scientific literature the main methods for correctly performing a tracheostomy, in addition to knowing how to identify and how to minimize its possible complications. Bibliographic review: Studies have shown that tracheostomy is one of the main methods of airway management, especially in critically ill and hospitalized patients. However, for this procedure to be as favorable as possible to the patient and to have the least chance of complications, it must be performed according to the indications and with proper use of established techniques, thereby reducing the chances of complications and increasing the degree of success of the patient's recovery. Final considerations: Like any surgical procedure, performing a tracheostomy can also cause risks to patients, which when correctly weighted so that the benefit is greater than the possible harm when performing this technique, in addition to minimizing errors and properly handling possible complications. complications, increase the patient's chances of cure.
