Uma abordagem geral do transtorno bipolar

Resumo

Objetivo: Analisar as características do Transtorno Bipolar (TB). Revisão bibliográfica: O TB envolve episódios afetivos de mania e depressão como sintomas clínicos primários juntamente com sintomas de déficit cognitivo, que juntos podem levar a uma redução geral da qualidade de vida. Além disso, os sintomas do transtorno bipolar podem existir em um espectro com indivíduos apresentando vários graus de sintomas, e características do espectro bipolar, como aumento da atividade motora, hipersonia, hiperfagia ou irritabilidade. Desequilíbrio de neurotransmissores, estresse oxidativo (OS) e causas genéticas são alguns dos fatores que têm sido associados à fisiopatologia do TB. Considerações finais: O transtorno bipolar é uma doença mental crônica com ônus significativo para o indivíduo, sociedade e sistema de saúde. Este transtorno é, muitas vezes, comórbido com uso de drogas, transtornos de ansiedade e transtorno de déficit de atenção e hiperatividade, aumentando o risco de suicídio. Nesse contexto, é ideal que seja tratada por uma equipe multidisciplinar com tratamento farmacológico e psicoterapia adjuvante. A terapêutica medicamentosa de primeira linha é o lítio.
