The incidence of psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents victims of sexual abuse
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To analyze the incidence of psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents who are victims of sexual abuse. Literature review: Child sexual abuse is a major public health problem and affects millions of young people worldwide. According to article 217-A of the Brazilian penal code, the practice of vulnerable rape is characterized by any libidinous act against minors under 14 years of age. Preschool children and adolescents are in a more vulnerable situation and more commonly involve non-consensual physical contact and penetration. Results: It is noted that children and adolescents who are victims of sexual abuse have a greater risk of acquiring sexually transmitted infections and a greater risk of early pregnancy. Furthermore, the prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD), borderline, psychotic disorders, insomnia and depressive and suicidal behavior are the most common psychiatric illnesses, in addition to consequences for emotional development. Final considerations: Comprehensive care for the victim with a multidisciplinary team with good psychosocial support and pharmacological intervention is essential to support victims and try to alleviate the damage to the patient's life.
