Resumo

Objetivo: Analisar estudos e evidências sobre o impacto que a mastectomia causa na imagem corporal e suas particularidades. Revisão bibliográfica: O câncer de mama é uma doença complexa, de alta incidência, devido a sua causalidade ser multifatorial e seu tratamento ser diverso. A mastectomia, linha principal de tratamento para a patologia, cursa com danos a imagem corporal da mulher, pois modifica a aparência e função corporal, afetando a identidade dos indivíduos. A retirada do seio causa efeitos psicológicos indesejados, sensibilizando questões de autoestima, feminilidade, o próprio sentimento de luto, favorecendo o aparecimento de doenças como depressão e ansiedade. Contudo, abordagens como a reconstrução mamária possui efeitos positivos na autoestima e bem estar dessas mulheres. Considerações finais: A modificação da imagem corporal causa danos à saúde e piora a qualidade de vida. Assim, o alinhamento na abordagem terapêutica para as mulheres pós mastectomizadas é fundamental para que o sofrimento e conturbação da imagem corporal diminuam. Outrossim, existe uma escassez na literatura sobre o tema que precisa ser revertida.
