Indicators of efficiency in solid organ donation due to brain death
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To investigate the indicators of efficiency in organ transplantation from a brain-dead donor and the factors that can influence and compromise the donation of these solid organs. Literature Review: Organ transplantation is a crucial surgical technique to replace organs affected by serious diseases, providing a second chance at life for recipients in organ failure. It can be performed with organs from living or deceased donors, the latter often diagnosed with brain death. However, it is important to note that issues such as effectiveness and efficiency are relevant. Efficiency is determined by the ratio between the resources used and the number of transplants performed, as well as the survival rate. However, family refusal can be a significant obstacle to organ donation, influenced by cultural, religious, and communication factors. Final considerations: Despite the advances, there are still challenges to be overcome to improve the effectiveness of the transplantation process, highlighting the importance of investigating efficiency indicators and factors that impact organ donation.
