Exploración de la encefalopatía traumática crónica en atletas de fútbol americano

Resumen

Objetivo: Evaluar los principales trastornos neurológicos asociados a la encefalopatía traumática crónica (ETC) y su relación con la práctica del fútbol americano. Métodos: Se trata de una revisión bibliográfica integradora, realizada utilizando las bases de datos Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILACS), US National Library of Medicine (PubMed) y Web of Science, a partir de artículos científicos completos publicados entre 2019 y 2024, de libre acceso en portugués e inglés. Se encontraron 96 artículos, de los cuales 79 fueron excluidos por no cumplir con los criterios, dando un total de 17 artículos para ser leídos y analizados en su totalidad. Resultados: Con base en los artículos leídos, se observó una similitud entre los trastornos neurológicos generados por el STC observados en atletas, siendo estos el aumento del volumen perivascular, el parkinsonismo y la cefalea recurrente. Consideraciones finales: Esta revisión ha señalado las principales causas de las principales complicaciones citadas como resultado de la ETC, explorando la posición jugada por cada jugador, el tiempo de participación en el fútbol americano y la ocurrencia de impactos repetitivos en la cabeza.
