Explorando a encefalopatia traumática crônica em atletas de futebol americano

Resumo
Objetivo: Avaliar os principais distúrbios neurológicos associados à encefalopatia traumática crônica (ETC) e a relação deles com a prática do futebol americano. Métodos: Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa de literatura, realizada nas bases de dados da Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS), Biblioteca Nacional de Medicina dos Estados Unidos (PubMed) e Web of Science, a partir dos artigos científicos completos, publicados de 2019 a 2024, com acesso livre nos idiomas português e inglês. Foram encontrados 96 artigos, dos quais 79 foram excluídos por não atenderem os critérios, totalizando 17 artigos para serem lidos e analisados na íntegra. Resultados: Com base nos artigos lidos observou-se uma semelhança entre os distúrbios neurológicos gerados pela ETC observados nos atletas, sendo eles o aumento do volume perivascular, Parkinson e cefaleia recorrente. Considerações finais: Esta revisão apontou as principais causas das principais complicações citadas ocasionadas pela ETC, explorando a posição desempenhada por cada jogador, o tempo de participação no futebol americano e a ocorrência de impactos repetitivos na cabeça.
