The occurrence of preeclampsia in pregnant women infected by SARS-CoV-2: an integrative review

Abstract

Objective: To analyze the occurrence of preeclampsia in pregnant women infected with the virus that causes the disease Covid-19. Methods: The methodological approach of this work proposes a compilation of bibliographic research with a qualitative approach and descriptive character through an integrative literature review in the National Library of Medicine, Virtual Health Library and Directory of Open Access Journals databases. The descriptors used were “covid-19”, “pre-eclampsia” and “pregnancy”. Inclusion criteria were articles from journal articles, clinical trials, clinical trials, randomized or non-randomized, case-control studies, cohort study, free access, published in English, Portuguese, Spanish and between 2020 and 2022. Results: Of the selected articles, the consequences of infection by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes Covid-19, in the body of women during the gestation period were addressed, these consequences being PE. A comparative table was constructed, which is composed by the author, year of publication, number of individuals approached in the studies and percentage of the complication addressed according to the number of patients evaluated. Final considerations: Thus, the relationship between Covid-19 and PE is revealed in the seventeen articles evaluated, being reported as 100% incidence in pregnant women.
