Therefore, techniques have emerged to avoid these areas of greater bone loss and to avoid noble structures, which are often limiting for implant installation. One of the suggested and well-accepted techniques to avoid these anatomical structures is the “All on Four” concept, where four long implants are installed, two anterior ones are installed axially and the posterior ones are placed in an angled position for better anteroposterior distribution, as well as the variation of this technique presented in detail in this article. Final considerations: Considering the importance of total rehabilitation with implants, using techniques aimed at installing implants in atrophic jaws, it is up to experienced professionals to use this technique or variants of the technique, cautiously and with scientific basis, so that rehabilitation brings the advantages reported in this article.
2025-05-19T17:07:21+00:00 ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://acervomais.com.br/index.php/odontologico/article/view/17669 Trends in orbital floor fracture management 2024-11-26T10:32:22+00:00 Lucas Marques Vieira lucasmarques3004@alu.ufc.br Lais Tajra Castello Branco laistajracb@gmail.com Maria Luísa Sousa Sobrinho luisasobrinho.ufc@gmail.com Eduardo Frederico Eduardo Maferano maferanoeduardo@gmail.com Breno Souza Benevides brenosbenevides@gmail.com Renato Luiz Maia Nogueira renatolmaia@terra.com.br Thyciana Rodrigues Ribeiro thyciana.ribeiro@ufc.br Teresa Walter de Aguiar Ellery teresaaguiar@edu.unifor.br Andréa Silvia Walter de Aguiar andrea.aguiar@ufc.br
Objective: To identify the techniques and materials used in the treatment of orbital floor fractures. Methods: This is an integrative review, with articles published between 2012 and 2024, without language restrictions and with full text available. As they show similar embryological, anatomical and microbiota similarities, their diagnosis ends up becoming an inspiration for dental surgeons. The dental pulp and periodontal ligament are closely related, having embryonic, anatomical and functional interrelationships. There is greater communication between these two tissues, thus, the occurrence of disease in one of the tissues can be spread to the other, as these connections serve as a way for microorganisms and their by-products to move between the pulp and the periodontium. The endoperio lesion is a condition characterized by the association of periodontal and pulp disease in the same dental element. For the evaluation of the lesion and correct diagnosis and establishment of the best treatment plan, it is necessary to know the methods of classification of endo-perio lesions aiming at a better prognosis. Final considerations: Through this knowledge, the dental surgeon will arrive at the correct diagnosis and treatment, resulting in possible chances of success in the treatment of endodontic-periodontal lesions. The revised literature demonstrated that teachers, if trained, can become multiplying agents in the promotion of oral health. However, there is a predominance of educators who do not recognize the relevance of their participation in this area due to: absence of the theme during graduation; lack of training and support materials; scarcity of educational programs focused on oral health in schools. Therefore, it is necessary to unite dentistry and education in the school environment to improve children's oral health.
2021-05-13T13:09:16+00:00 ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://acervomais.com.br/index.php/odontologico/article/view/6260 Effects of chenopodium ambrosioides l. Fresh leaves were used to produce the mastruz extract. After crushing, the liquid was incorporated into the carbopol to obtain gelatiniform consistency. To analyze the effects of the gel extract, 12 Wistar rats with induced osteoporosis were used, divided into two groups. In group 1, the bone defect was filled by a blood clot; and in group 2, with gel of the mast extract. By phytochemical screening, tannins and saponins were identified in the gel extract of the mast. At 30 days, in group 1, there was a mild inflammatory infiltrate filled with thin and intercommunicating bone spicules formed by primary bone tissue. In group 2, the formation of thick bony trabecular tissue was identified, consisting of primary and secondary bone tissue, with bone defect covered by periosteum and absence of inflammatory signs. A gelatinous mast gel extract was produced with the presence of tannins and saponins, identified by phytochemical screening, showing a favorable bone repair in surgical defects performed on the tibias of osteoporotic rats.
Composite resins (RCs) are materials widely used in dentistry as a restorative method. Despite this, its thickness capacity has limiting factors that interfere in an improvement in results. Thus, bulkfill RCs (RCB) arise with the possibility of unique increments in restorative processes. The objective of this work is to review the literature about what is known up to the current context about this restorative material, showing the clinical applicability of RCB, in addition to its properties as an effective implement in restorative dentistry. The following health descriptors were used: composite resins, polymerization, operative dentistry, clinical evaluation and chemistry applied in the PubMed and Science Direct databases, in English and interconnected by the Boolean operator “AND”. Of the 143 studies found, 133 were excluded for presenting one or more exclusion criteria, and 10 studies were included in this review. The RCBs through their chemical properties allow greater speed in clinical treatments, reducing technical complexities in professionais procedures, in addition to the ability to increase more advantageous than conventional RCs. However, further studies with longer evaluation periods are needed before a definitive recommendation for changes to clinical protocols.
2021-02-05T17:16:42+00:00 ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://acervomais.com.br/index.php/odontologico/article/view/5759 The role of 10-MDP in the adhesion process 2022-07-06T14:33:33+00:00 Amanda da Silva Lima amandalima1704@hotmail.com Gabriel Ramos Rúbio gabrielramosrubio10@gmail.com Lorena dos Santos Rodrigues lorenasrodrigues@outlook.com Nathalia Silveira Finck nathaliafinck@gmail.com
This article aims to analyze the role of functional monomers in the adhesion process. The introduction of these in the adhesive systems allowed to intensify the adhesive forces through chemical bonds and, thus, increase the quality of restorative dentistry. 10-Methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (10-MDP) is a monomer that has the ability to promote better adhesion when compared to other functional monomers. Thus, the objective of this article is to present, through a literature review, the role of monomer 10-MDP in the adhesion process in dental restorations. A bibliographic survey was carried out in the Medline, BVS and Lilacs databases using the following search terms: Dental Restoration Failure; Dental Cements; Dentistry; Stickers. The literature emphasizes that 10-MDP is a monomer that stands out for having a bond both with hydroxyapatite in dental tissues and with resin composites and cements, thus promoting a stable and lasting bond strength. In addition, it also acts as a bonding agent between resin composites and metal oxides, improving the bond strength to zirconia, for example, through a chemical interaction between its surface and the applied resin cement. Thus, 10-MDP is considered the gold standard for dentin adhesion.
2021-01-22T20:54:25+00:00 ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://acervomais.com.br/index.php/odontologico/article/view/5893 Oral clinical manifestations of paracoccidioidomycosis: a case report 2022-07-06T14:31:29+00:00 Caroline Maria de Souza carolmfsouza@hotmail.com Fernanda Barbosa Esteves Rocha fernandaestevesrocha@hotmail.com Mirella Moreira Miguel mirella.miguel2010@hotmail.com Sarah Vitor Teixeira Rodrigues svlua@hotmail.com Roseli Teixeira Miranda roseli.miranda@hotmail.com Maria Carolina Vaz Goulart mariacarolinaodonto@yahoo.com.br Gérsika Bitencourt Santos gersika.santos@unifenas.br
Paracoccidioidomycosis is a fungal disease resulting from the dimorphic fungus Paracoccidioides brasiliensis that has a predilection for hot and humid places, which is why there is a high incidence of the disease in Brazil. The primary site of the disease involves the pulmonary region, but with the advance of research and studies focused on the disease, the region of the oral mucosa has been greatly affected by the fungus. The article aims to demonstrate the oral clinical manifestations of paracoccidioidomycosis in a female patient who was diagnosed at 79 years old, treated with oral antifungal by the dental team and referred to a medical clinic for treatment of the disease. The patient had an ulcerated lesion with a moriform background with hemorrhagic stitches on the right alveolar ridge. The incisional biopsy was performed and the microscopic result revealed birefringent structures suggestive of Paracoccidioidomycosis. The patient was treated by the dental team at the Unifenas-Alfenas dental clinic and subsequently referred to the Infectious Diseases Department at Hospital Alzira Vellano, in Alfenas-MG, for the evaluation and treatment of systemic symptoms. Based on the results of the physical, clinical and histological exams and on the characteristics that predispose to susceptibility to the disease, such as being a smoker for more than 30 years, hypertensive and working in the countryside, led to the final diagnosis of the injury.
2021-01-15T14:11:03+00:00 ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://acervomais.com.br/index.php/odontologico/article/view/5915 Black extrinsic spots on decided and permanent teeth: literature review 2021-01-04T14:38:51+00:00 Thaís Amaral Carvalho thays4929carvalho@gmail.com Géssica Kerolayne da Silva de Oliveira gessicakerolayne21@gmail.com Kathleen Hayden Oliveira de Medeiros kathleenhayden14@gmail.com Pedro Rauel Cândido Domingos 012000741@prof.uninassau.edu.br
Extrinsic black pigmented spots (EBPS) are characterized as pigmented spots, black in color, that occur in different locations of the arch, compromising the patient's dental aesthetics. In this article, the causes, diagnosis and treatment of EBPS were investigated, aiming to contribute to a greater understanding of the subject. Currently, with the evolution of dental aesthetics, demand has increased and improved access to the dental surgeon to treat situations such as EBPS. The occurrence of EBPS is related in the literature to the presence of some microorganisms, such as Actinomyces sp. and Prevotella Melaninogenicas, in the composition of oral biofilm, as well as diets rich in substances used by these microorganisms for the production of pigment, such as Calcium and Iron, mainly. The diagnosis of EBPS is performed clinically, with the laboratory diagnosis being considered the gold standard for microbial culture, enabling identification and sensitivity testing. Associated with the occurrence of spots is a protective factor against cavities promoted by this specific biofilm. Among the treatments available, abrasive techniques are the most used, but they do not solve the recurrence problems, common to the affected patients, being the current challenge to be overcome by new methodologies that may be developed.
2020-12-31T03:18:36+00:00 ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://acervomais.com.br/index.php/odontologico/article/view/5878 Bilateral maxillary sinus lift by two different techniques with concomitant installation the implants: case report 2022-07-06T14:28:10+00:00 Sayene Garcia Batista sayenegarciabatista@gmail.com Myllena Raposo Santana de Faria myllenaraposo10@gmail.com Jeter Bochnia jeter.bochnia@odonto.ufrj.br Osmar de Agostinho Neto osmar.agostinho@odonto.ufrj.br Elson Braga de Mello elsonbraga@odonto.ufrj.br Clarissa Bichara Magalhães clarissa.magalhaes@odonto.ufrj.br
This article aims to demonstrate, through a clinical case report, the bilateral maxillary sinus lifting approach by two different techniques, a traumatic one through the side window and an atraumatic one through the bone crest, associated with the installation of osseointegrated implants. A 75-year-old female patient sought care at the clinic of the Extension Course in Implantology at an university of Rio de Janeiro with pain in upper molars. After anamnesis, clinical examination and analysis of computed tomography, extensive furcation lesion was observed in elements 16 and 26, with extraction and rehabilitation with oseeointegrated implants being indicated. Also, due to the low subantral bone height, the lifting of the bilateral maxillary sinus was included in the treatment plan. On the right side, the Summers technique was performed and on the left side the side window technique associated with the use of particulate synthetic biomaterial and resorbable collagen membrane. The panoramic radiograph of post-surgical control demonstrated the success of both techniques with an adequate anatomical relationship of the graft and both implants to the recipient bed. Thus, maxillary sinus elevation surgery with the concomitant installation of implants proved to be a safe procedure of good predictability and low rate of complications.
This study aimed to conduct a literature review about the use of dental caries sealing as a minimally invasive alternative. A 47-year-old female patient came to the dental clinic complaining of dissatisfaction with her smile. During the anamnesis, it was observed that the restorations on teeth 44, 45, 46 and 47 were unsatisfactory. In the radiographic exams, it was possible to observe periapical lesion in teeth 44 and 47, the presence of unsatisfactory endodontic treatments in 44, 45, 46 and 47, and the presence of metallic intraradicular retainers in all the mentioned teeth. From the exams, it was planned to remove the prefabricated pin from tooth 45. The removal process started with absolute isolation and removal of the restorative material, then, with the aid of an optical microscope for field magnification, the technique of an integrated and simultaneous ultrasound system was performed, using two ultrasound tips in opposite vibrations on the retainer. After sequences of application of the technique, the cement film fractured and the pin was removed. In conclusion, then, it is extremely important to promote appropriate therapy for the patient in face of their needs, since there is use of quality of life, in addition to discarding the presence of malignant lesions that can affect more severely or individually.
2020-08-06T17:09:11+00:00 ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://acervomais.com.br/index.php/odontologico/article/view/3937 Evaluation of intercanin distance and its correlation with maloclusions 2022-07-06T14:07:54+00:00 Téssia Richelly Nóbrega Borja de Melo tessiaborja@yahoo.com.br Gustavo Ramos Souza gustavoramos2015@gmail.com
The objective of this work is to evaluate a correlation between channels at a distance and as more occlusions. It treated an observational and prospective study, data that were collected from 110 orthodontic documents and study models, from patients between 12 and 35 years old. The variables studied were: age, sex, racial pattern, molar angle ratio, plus occlusions and intercanine distances. The data were recorded in specific forms and distributed in tables, where analytical statistics were applied through Student and ANOVA tests (p <0.05). The results were as follows: the average age was 17.7 years; a majority of the sample was female (58.7%) and feoderms (43.6%). The Class I relationship is more frequent (46.4% on the right; 49.1% on the left) and a more prevalent occlusion was tooth crowding (67.7%). The distance media were: 33.98 mm, for an upper arch and 26.11 mm for an interior. The intercanine distance in the upper arch of men was statistically greater than in women; as well as children under 12 to 20 years old, those over 21 to 35 years old. It was concluded that there was no significant correlation between intercanine distances and as more occlusions.
2020-08-06T17:07:02+00:00 ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://acervomais.com.br/index.php/odontologico/article/view/3446 Syphilis and its oral manifestations: clinical case report 2022-07-06T14:05:40+00:00 Liana Carla Souza de Andrade Batista lianabatist20@gmail.com Letícia de Oliveira Santos oliveiraleticia_14@live.com Mariana Cecília de Oliveira Terêncio marianaccecilia@gmail.com Nycole Valois Rocha Vieira da Silva valoisnycole@gmail.com Ronaldo de Carvalho Raimundo ronaldodecarvalho@ig.com.br Márcia Maria Fonseca da Silveira marcia.m.f.s@hotmail.com Vânia Cavalcanti Ribeiro da Silva vaniacavrs@gmail.com
This article sought to present the case of a 26-year-old male patient who came to the stomatology clinic for presenting multiple, painless, irregular, whitish lesions located in the oral cavity. He also had a visually enlarged and palpable lymph node in the submental region. With a clinical hypothesis of sexually trasmitted infection, complementary diagnostic tests were requested. The patient was positive for the screening test for Syphilis and the Mantoux test and was referred to the medical service for diagnostic confirmation and treatment. Subsequently, he underwent specific serological test that confirmed the diagnosis of Syphilis and ruled out other infections. The patient was treated with Penicillin G Benzatin and immediately after the first dose of the medication, he presented total regression of the lesions located in the mouth. Syphilis, even today, is a public health problem and a major challenge lies in the recognition of manifestations located in extragenital sites. Although the oral cavity is not the preferred site of involvement, it is a region of frequent involvement. Therefore, the detailed clinical examination associated with the request for serological tests cannot be neglected and the dentist must be able to recognize the suspected lesions of this infection.
2020-06-26T17:14:26+00:00 ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://acervomais.com.br/index.php/odontologico/article/view/3117 Buco-sinusal communication fence with palatine shutter prosthesis: case report 2022-07-06T13:54:18+00:00 Rita de Cássia Araújo Fonseca ritadekassia_@hotmail.com Franklin Barbosa da Silva frank_barbosa@hotmail.com
The objective of this study is to report a case of rehabilitation with the manufacture of a palatal obturator prosthesis, made after surgical removal of mucoepidermoid carcinoma located in the region of the palate that caused a bucco-sinusal communication. A 52-year-old male patient came at the prosthesis clinic of Nilton Lins University, reporting having undergone surgery to remove mucoepidermoid carcinoma, and who had difficulties in phonation, swallowing and chewing after the procedure. To solve the case, it was decided to make a palatal obturator prosthesis. It started by study molding with alginate, then the resulting model was taken to the paralelometer for planning the metal structure of the obturator. A cast partial denture with double bar connector, four twinned clasps for retention and an acrylic obturator portion on a posterior saddle was planned. After that, the niches were made followed by work molding. The model was sent to the laboratory and at the next consultation the prosthesis was successfully adapted in the mouth. With the installation, an improvement in the patient's oral functions was observed, reducing the consequences of the surgical sequel.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the bone and dental effects of reverse maxillary traction, using Petit's face mask, associated with traditional orthodontic mechanics. Patient K.P.R, female, 12 years old, feoderma, sought orthodontic care, reporting as the main complaint “absence of lower teeth and very large chin”. After the clinical examination and the evaluation of the orthodontic documentation (extra and intraoral photographs; panoramic of the jaws; lateral teleradiography and cephalometric tracing), a case of skeletal Class III was diagnosed, with mandibular prognathism, whose hereditary history demonstrated the occurrence of other family members with the same change. In view of the above, orthopedic intervention was chosen, through the association of the Hyrax expander and Petit's face mask, and subsequently, the bonding of a fixed orthodontic appliance was continued, applying the Class III correction mechanics, through intermaxillary elastics. The treatment was completed after 20 months. The association between orthopedics and orthodontics, performed through reverse maxillary traction and fixed apparatus, resulted in benefits for the correction of Class III malocclusion, minimizing the bone and dental effects of this malocclusion, as well as promoting a considerable improvement in facial aesthetics of the patient.
2020-04-24T09:47:12+00:00 ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://acervomais.com.br/index.php/odontologico/article/view/2477 Psychosocial aspects related to the deentified patient: A literature review 2022-07-06T12:59:23+00:00 Mayara Monique Silva Oliveira mayaramonique.so@gmail.com Tatyana Maria Carvalho Pereira Farias tatyanafariass@gmail.com Rafaella de Souza Leao rafaellaleao90@hotmail.com Rayanna Thayse Florêncio Costa rayannatfcosta@gmail.com Pedro Alves Muniz pa.muniz@bol.com.br Sandra Lúcia Dantas de Moraes sandra.moraes@upe.br
Abstract: This article aimed to carry out an analysis of the possible psychological and social consequences caused by the loss of dental elements. For this, an electronic search for articles dated between 2009 and 2019 was carried out in the databases: PUBMED, Scielo and Google scholar. Among them, 15 articles were included for quantitative and qualitative analysis, according to the inclusion criteria adopted. The loss of teeth caused by oral diseases, lack of access to health care, lack of information, socioeconomic status, cultural factors, as well as the predominantly mutilating model, influence on psychosocial aspects that can, consequently, impact the quality of life of individuals, as these conditions interfere with the patient's diet, phonation and aesthetics causing him pain and psychological discomfort, and compromising his interaction in the social environment. In addition, edentulism interferes with self-image and interpersonal relationships, as well as the individual's psychological, causing feelings of social embarrassment, decreased self-confidence, sadness and low self-esteem.
2020-03-06T11:19:14+00:00 ##submission.copyrightStatement##
