Abstract
Objective: To demonstrate the importance of intimate hygiene and its relationship with gynecological diseases. Methods: This is an integrative literature review. Data collection was carried out using the National Library of Medicine (PubMed), Scientic Electronic Library Online (Scielo) and Virtual Health Library (VHL) databases, with a time frame from 2012 to 2022. Results: Intimate hygiene, even though indispensable to maintain women's health, unfortunately, it is still a subject little addressed and discussed, sometimes due to social taboo, sometimes due to lack of knowledge about the subject. In this sense, it is fundamental that the woman is properly instructed. One of the main aspects observed is the divergence in relation to women's perceptions about performing vulvovaginal hygiene, which is directly associated with schooling levels. In addition, the importance of trained professionals to guide women is highlighted, both in choosing and in the correct use of hygiene products, thus minimizing the risk of vulvovaginal diseases. Final considerations: The lack of understanding regarding female intimate health, as well as the lack of professional guidance to patients, is a challenge to ensure that the intimate hygiene of the female public is carried out in the most appropriate way possible.
