Abstract
Objective: To analyze the dermatological alterations of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and its influence on the lives of patients. Bibliographic review: Lupus is defined as a chronic, relapsing and multisystemic autoimmune disease that can affect the skin and even lead to multiorgan failure. It has a higher occurrence in females and its pathophysiology is controversial. Its main manifestations are dermatological, with a predominance of malar rash, eruptions and alopecia. These alterations can significantly reduce the patient's quality of life, as they lead to limitations in several areas, such as the physical, psychological and social. The characteristic cutaneous manifestations of SLE can affect and worsen the patient's physical self-perception by up to 3 times. In addition, there is a higher prevalence of psychiatric disorders, such as anxiety and depression, in these patients when compared to the general population. Thus, it is important that the patient is diagnosed early, treated and followed up by a multidisciplinary team, according to the complexity of this pathology. Final considerations: The self-image and body self-perception of patients with SLE is highly impaired by their condition and, consequently, their quality of life tends to be lower if not adequately monitored.
