Abstract
Objective: Analyze the characteristics of Acute Viral Bronchiolitis (AVB) and discuss its appropriate treatment. Literature review: AVB is a common condition, especially in children under the age of two. It manifests itself through a wide variety of symptoms, affecting both the lower and upper airways. Among these symptoms, wheezing, hypoxemia, thoracic retractions and other symptoms indicative of respiratory distress stand out. Its pathophysiology involves an inflammatory response in the airways, resulting in excessive mucus production and failure to clear it. Final considerations: AVB is a frequent lung disease in pediatric outpatient clinics. Its diagnosis is based predominantly on the clinical manifestations and physical examination of the patient. As for the treatment, there is debate about the use of some specific medications, but it is essential to emphasize that the current treatment should be strictly supportive. Therefore, it is of paramount importance to know about AVB so that the professional, when faced with the disease, performs the management, avoiding complications and unfavorable results.
