Abstract
Objetivo: Analyze the reasons for non-adherence to HIV prophylaxis. Methods: This is a literature review that used the PICO method to formulate the guiding question, with searches in the CAPES, PubMed, and Scielo databases using the keywords "HIV," "prophylaxis," "prevention," and "public policies." A total of 66 articles were found, of which 20 were selected with the support of the "Rayyan" platform for data collection. Results: The main findings show that HIV is most prevalent among men, whites, and young people, especially those who have sex with men. Furthermore, these findings highlight a connection between the lack of information about STIs and the individual's socioeconomic status with the increase in HIV rates in Brazil. Additionally, it was possible to identify that individuals with high levels of education are predominant in the use of PrEP and PEP; conversely, individuals with low levels of education face difficulties in accessing these types of prophylaxis. Final considerations: It can be considered that variables such as social class, age, gender, and education are directly related to access to information and the use of prophylactic measures related to HIV. The implementation of public policies focused on preventing the syndrome is necessary.
