Abstract
Objective: To review the available literature on the clinical management and prognosis of diabetic gastroparesis. Methods: A literature review was conducted using the PubMed and Virtual Health Library (BVS) databases, covering studies published between 1995 and 2023, in English and Portuguese. Search terms included "diabetic gastroparesis," "management," "prognosis," and their variations. The review included observational studies, clinical trials, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses focusing on the clinical management and prognosis of patients with diabetic gastroparesis. Studies that did not specify diabetic etiology or that addressed other causes of gastroparesis were excluded. Results: The review identified that the management of diabetic gastroparesis involves a combination of dietary interventions, pharmacological therapies, and, in some cases, non-pharmacological treatments such as gastric electrical stimulation. Prognosis varies depending on disease severity, response to treatment, and the presence of associated complications. Final considerations: The management of diabetic gastroparesis is complex and requires a multidisciplinary approach. Early identification and appropriate treatment are essential to improve clinical outcomes and the quality of life of patients.
