Abstract

Objective: To analyze the characteristics of Acute Viral Bronchiolitis (AVB) and Bronchiolitis Obliterans (BO). Literature review: AVB is mainly caused by the respiratory syncytial virus, has a seasonal pattern of incidence, which was influenced by the Covid-19 pandemic. It can be caused by viral co-infections, which seems to require a longer period of hospitalization and the identification of serious cases has been facilitated with the use of bedside ultrasound. Treatment is supportive. BO is a chronic lung disease that affects the patient's quality of life; its pathogenesis is not fully known, which makes it difficult to develop an effective therapy. It can hinder the success of lung transplants and requires the patient and their caregivers to adapt their routine in order to guarantee the necessary support in the face of this irreversible condition. Final considerations: It is necessary to encourage more studies focused on these diseases. Furthermore, it is essential that health professionals have a good understanding of them, so that they can assist in managing the child and their guardians, taking into account their particularities.
