Abstract

Objective: To elucidate immediate and late postoperative complications of bariatric surgeries, whether restrictive, malabsorptive or mixed, in order to reduce their incidence based on learning about the mechanism in which they are established. Bibliographic review: It addresses the main pathologies found late or early in the postoperative period of this procedure, such as Gastrojejunal Anastomosis Stenosis, Gastro-Gastric Fistula, Internal Hernias, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease and Dumping Syndrome. In addition to unraveling the presentation of its clinic, facilitating its diagnosis, exposing the pathophysiological mechanism of its manifestation and, mainly, elucidating the appropriate treatments. In direct analysis, the present review aims to correlate the consequences inherent to the postoperative period, where these, in some situations, would have the ability to be avoided through the use of effective alternative techniques. Final considerations: In short, the correct applicability of the techniques, together with the individualization of the patient in the choice of the surgical approach, culminate in lower rates of complications related to this procedure.
