Abstract

Objective: To describe the main epidemiological measures of Esophageal Atresia in children under 1-year-old in the state of Rio de Janeiro from 2008 to 2021. Methods: Population study that were used the Hospital Information System (HIS/SUS) Mortality Information System (MIS) and Live Birth Information System (LBIS) and rates werecalculated for 100,000 live births. Results: During this period, 273 hospitalizations were performed. The year with the highest hospitalization rate was 2019, with 14.41 per 100,000 live births, and the lowest was 2012, with 4.04. The total number of deaths was 95. The highest mortality rate was in 2018, at 4.98. The lowest mortality rate was seen in 2013, with 1.78. Final considerations: Therefore, it was seen that the hospitalization rate increased over time, and it can be understood that there was an improvement when diagnosing these patients, however the mortality rate didn’t decrease, which can be explained by the lack of financial and technological resources, since that Brazil is a developing country.
