Abstract

Objective: To review the scientific literature on the mechanism of action and possible clinical applicability of Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) in the field of medicine. Bibliographic review: PRF is a platelet concentrate rich in growth factors, leukocytes and platelets. This product aims to promote tissue regeneration more efficiently and quickly. To obtain it, fresh blood is used and centrifuged, gathering the most active components of the sample. These components, added to neutrophils and platelets, promote tissue regeneration. Currently, PRF is experimental in medicine, although it is used for dental purposes, improving healing in surgical procedures. In the studies presented, the results have been positive regarding its use in skin continuity lesions and for aesthetic purposes. Final considerations: The analyzed studies showed that from its rich arsenal of growth factors, PRF has shown satisfactory results in the healing of several injuries and in the reduction of the patient's recovery time. Thus, PRF emerges as a new approach to tissue repair.
