Abstract

Objective: To carry out a integrative review aimed at clarifying the prevalence of cases of encephalitis caused by Covid-19 in the pediatric age group, establishing the common points allowing to elucidate the relationship of these two pathologies. Methods: A total of 375 articles were evaluated, through the inclusion and exclusion criteria, remaining a total of 8 articles detailed in table form. Results: Male prevalence was identified (62.5%) and higher incidence between 10 and 18 years of age. Most cases were initially managed as encephalitis, with subsequent testing and viral confirmation in the CSF. Proving that neurological symptoms can represent the first symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 infection and should be taken into account during clinical evaluations. Final considerations: Although viral isolation in cerebrospinal fluid is infrequent, the investigation of COVID in pediatric patients with neurological conditions is of paramount importance. Aiming at early diagnosis and better clinical management of the case in the short and long term and allowing a positive clinical outcome
