Abstract

Objective: Review in the scientific literature on the preservation of female fertility in cancer patients, what techniques can be applied for this purpose, besides presenting specificities about gynecological cancers. Bibliographic review: In oncology, female patients undergoing cancer treatment often experience the loss of their reproductive capacity and are therefore led to reflect on the possibility of a future motherhood, thus understanding the current techniques available to maintain reproductive capacity. Strategies used include cryopreservation of oocytes, embryos and ovarian tissue, GnRH agonist for ovarian protection, and conservative surgeries in gynecological cancer. Proper counseling is associated with less regret, conflict over your decisions, and better cancer treatment. Final considerations: The preservation of female fertility is an aspect of great importance in oncology, in which most patients lose their reproductive capacity as a consequence of gonadotoxic effects of treatments. Thus, patients should be informed about the risks of infertility and possible outcomes after fertility preservation in order to ensure conscious decisions about their own fertility and family.
