Abstract
Objective: To identify the epidemiological profile, the most prevalent symptoms, the main physical limitations and the psychological repercussions of exacerbations in the lives of asthmatic children treated at a referral outpatient clinic in the interior of Bahia. Methods: Quali-quantitative research, case control, in which data were collected from January to September 2019, in an asthma referral outpatient clinic Results: Of the asthmatic patients analyzed, 63.2% (n=67) have a history of hospitalization due to asthma, with the number of hospitalizations ranging from two to five, despite the fact that only 3.8% required an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Among the main diseases associated with asthma, allergic rhinitis 90.6% (n=96), atopic dermatitis 43.3% (n=46) and adenoid hypertrophy 31.1% (n=33) stand out. Final considerations: There is a clear association between impaired quality of life and asthma, with greater impairment of quality of life in asthmatic patients compared to healthy patients.
