Abstract

Objective: To describe the use of vacuum therapy in healing complex wounds in the postoperative period. Bibliographic review: Complex wounds are injuries in which significant tissue loss occurs, generating a high risk of infection. There is a need for procedures that minimize healing time and restore maximum tissue vitality. Thus, the positive impact of negative pressure therapy is of great value. One of the benefits is the decrease in hospitalization time, leading to a lower risk of complications and lower patient expenses. In addition, it is important to point out the containment of the local infection, evidenced by the lower bacterial load in the wound. Negative Pressure Therapy can be administered in a hospital or at home, so that dressings are changed within 48 to 72 hours, to ensure full functioning and to ensure the effectiveness of the treatment. Final considerations: Complex wounds need more care when being treated, and the vacuum therapy is a good option due to the use of negative pressure for therapeutic purposes. This choice allows treatment in less time and with greater comfort for the patient, in addition to better aesthetic results and lower risk of complications.
