Abstract
Objective: Describe the learning and experiences of an internship in a Nephrology Clinic, in addition to the contact with the patient. Experience report: Based on a visit to a Hemodialysis Clinic, developed by 15 students of the Medicine course and supervised by a Nephrologist doctor during a practical internship promoted by the League of Nephrology, with the objective of consolidating the theoretical knowledge about the clinical specialty in question and to understand the dynamics of the dialysis procedure. Final considerations: The diagnosis of Chronic Kidney Disease implies changes in habits not only of the patient, but also of the family, since the treatment promotes physical, functional, dietary and social limitations. These limitations are even more serious in elderly patients, as they usually have some associated morbidity. Therefore, a more humanized, ethical and empathetic approach on the part of the health team is essential to mitigate the impact of the treatment; thus, justifying the student's contact, since graduation, with the Nephrology and Hemodialysis Clinics.
