Abstract

Objective: To highlight the benefits and difficulties of telemedicine as an alternative in accessing health. Methods: Integrative review, in the National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health (PubMed), Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS) and Journals of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) databases. The search was carried out in October 2022. The descriptors in Health Sciences (DeCS) were: telemedicine, access to health, primary health care, health surveys and their correspondents in English, with combinations of Boolean operators AND and OR. The inclusion criteria were: publications in Portuguese and English, original studies of a primary nature, freely accessible, available in full and published between 2017 and 2022. Results: After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 19 studies were selected. The present study was categorized into benefits and difficulties. Final considerations: The positive points that stand out are the expansion of access to health and the guarantee of longitudinality and resolution. The difficulties were the scarcity of human and structural resources, distance between doctor and patient and, finally, the lack of affinity with technology.
